Limitless Imagintation

For this free choice project we had creative freedom to create whatever we wanted as long as it fit in with our portfolio. So for my project I used an old portrait I had taken and added a sumi-e filter to it while doing some illustrator work for the background and text. Overall I enjoyed this project and thought that it turned out well. I might have liked to do something more over the top with the text and background but the project still worked out fine for me. As for the elements and principles of design I feel that my project best emulates both shape, color, and contrast. There are a lot of circular type motifs in my work as well as fantastical colors that contrasted the dark background colors. I hope to have many more successful pieces after this one.

Vacations
So I've been away for about two weeks due to two vacations. About two weeks ago I was in Vermont. It's a very lovely state with rolling mountains and lush greenery. Unfortunately I didn't get my new camera until last Saturday so only my mom took pictures. After that trip I had a week of chilling before leaving on my Mission Trip this last Monday. We went to Battle Creek and demo-ed a house, renovated a house, and primed a house. This time around I had a camera and took 305 pictures! Not all were usable since they were mostly to document the trip and have fun so they are mostly Facebook style pic's. In fact all of them are on Facebook if you want to check them out. Finally I'm close to finishing all 3 pieces so I'm mostly ready for next year.

Fireworks
So last weekend I watched fireworks at my Uncle's lake house. It was pretty cool and it got me to thinking. I thought that it might be cool to find a picture of a person and then like do their face in a firework kinda motif. I've got the idea of it in my head, and I think it would look cool. Regardless I think that fireworks are cool looking, colorful, and all around fun, so using them in art would be sweet. Will post pictures of stuff soon!

Summerfest
So I've been going to summerfest a lot this year, and just like Pridefest I have found a multitude of influences. Color can play an enormous part in what your final project looks like, but I've also found that taking a creative approach to sounds and conversing that into a 2D project can end up quite wonderfully. I have a whole bunch of ideas on how to incorporate music in to my work and make an intangible thing, tangible. Thus I've been sketching up a bunch of these ideas and hope to have a June piece all though by the look of time it seems that I may be doing two pieces in July. You know me, always slow on the uptake :)

Pridefest
So on Sunday I spent 8 hours at Pridefest and thought of interesting ideas to incorporate into my art work. Being as it was Pridefest there was plenty of rainbow inspired items as well as plenty of brightly colored people and objects. This excessive display of color made me think of how to use color in my own pieces to add emphasis and to overall brighten the mood. Unfortunately I did not have a camera with me, therefore there were plenty of portraits and photo ops that I had to pass up. Regardless, this experience made me think of color and reminded me to always bring a camera with you.
